Historical Overview

Five national professional organizations came together in January 2013 in Colombo, Sri Lanka to establish the South Asian Federation of Endocrine Societies (SAFES). The federation unites the National Endocrine Societies of India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal, and Sri Lanka with the core objective of developing an enduring regional forum for endocrinologists.

Under the inaugural leadership of President Dr. Sarita Bajaj, the 1st Endocrine Summit was hosted in Hyderabad from 17th–18th August 2013 by the Endocrine Society of India (ESI). It served as a multinational platform attended not only by accomplished endocrinologists, but also by primary care physicians, gynaecologists, paediatricians, urologists, andrologists, and orthopaedicians.

Historic Position Statement Adopted:
"South Asian Women with Diabetes: Psycho-Social Challenges and Management" — defining targeted strategies for clinical care and public advocacy tailored to the unique socio-cultural realities of South Asia.

2-Day Extravaganza: Intensive clinical sessions covering state-of-the-art diagnostic and management updates.

Regional Focus: In-depth exploration of endocrine problems specific to South Asian populations.

Dynamic Formats: Interactive Symposia, Meet-the-Professor discussions, Hands-on Workshops, and Endocrine Quiz.

Trainee Empowerment: Skill-building platform for DM and DNB Endocrinology trainees across South Asia.
